Creation of landmarks provides identity to a nation besides beautifying the environment. The city of Karachi possesses the world’s second highest water jet fountain situated in the Arabian Sea near Oyster Rocks. The majestic 620 feet high fountain is one of the most prominent landmarks of Karachi. It is a sight to enjoy from every vantage point on the Clifton Beach with illumination at night. The fountain is an icon for Pakistan and symbol of its development and is a gift from KPT to the citizens of Karachites.
Its cost is Rs. 225 millions and it was formally inaugurated by the President on 15 January 2006. “This Port Fountain, whatever it has cost, is also our need. It is reassuring, it gives us confidence, it gives us a feeling of being a member of the 21st century world community, it gives us experience in doing things which others are doing and hence makes us feel contemporary, it looks good, it is entertaining, and it brings a sense of modern esthetics to our senses”, said the President of Pakistan.
