KARACHI PORT FACILITATING 13 METERS DRAFT CARGO VESSELS

Karachi Port is pleased to announce that since November 2012, when it received its first 13 meter deep draft vessel, it has successfully handled 12 more deep draft vessels in the same draft depth range. Amongst the deep draft vessels visiting Karachi Port 9 carried coal, 2 general cargo and one Rock Phosphate.

The arrival of deep draft carriers has resulted in fair amount of reduction in business costs of shipping lines and port users and they feel better placed to opt for large sized vessels for shipment of their cargoes. KPT generated business revenue of more than Rupees Thirty million from the movement of these 12 vessels and it is estimated that maritime business also was recipient of sizeable financial returns.

During this exercise KPT ensured that loading/unloading of cargoes was undertaken round the clock to reduce turnover timing of these large vessels. Since assuming office Mr. Jawed Hanif Khan, Chairman, KPT has consistently strove to reduce turn around time as well as laying stress on dredging the channel deep to facilitate movement of modern state of the art large ships.

KPT is actively engaged in improving the infrastructure of Karachi Port and has undertaken many mega projects to realize its avowed goal.
