AMBASSADOR OF KINGDOM OF NETHERLANDS CALLED ON CHAIRMAN KPT VICE ADMIRAL (R) SHAFQAT JAWED AT KPT HEAD OFFICE BUILDING
Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands, Mrs Jeanette Seppen, has called on Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed at KPT Head Office building Karachi to discuss avenues of mutual understanding and utilization of each others’ expertise and resources beneficial for both the countries. During the meeting the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed briefed Her Excellency the Ambassador Mrs Jeanette Seppens about the infrastructure and operational capabilities of Karachi Port as well as the strategic Karachi Port Improvement Programme (KPIP) being financed by the World Bank at which KPT is working these days with equally focussed to attain the EHS Compliance in its operational and infrastructural capabilities.
The Chairman Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed also informed her during the meeting that KPT is enjoying good relations with the Netherlands as a Dutch firm MTBS is already working on KPIP. Besides this, KPT has procured three dredgers – Backhoe Dredger “ALI”, Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger “ABUL” and Cutter Suction Dredger “MINHAL” from the Dutch firms/shipyards. He further informed Her Excellency Jeanette that the two dredgers BD “ALI” and CSD “MINHAL” were acquired from IHC Holland and the TSHD “ABUL” was procured from the D Dong Shipyard.
Looking from the perspective of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has brought Pakistan to fore in terms of economic boom, has in reality increased its importance to other landlocked regional nations as well as regional ports to remain linked with Pakistan generally and particularly with this corridor. Karachi Port Trust, under the umbrella of Federal Ministry of Ports and Shipping, is all set to grab hold all the opportunities that come its way. Complimenting the strategic importance of Karachi Port, Her Excellency Mrs Jeanette took keen interest in mega development projects of KPT which also includes the deep water container port as well as projects for achieving better connectivity.
During the meeting, Her Excellency Mrs Jeanette Seppens informed the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral (R) Shafqat Jawed about her intentions to bring the two nations together and more avenues for business could be explored. Later, the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed presented souvenir/crest to Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands, Mrs Jeanette Seppens, which concluded the proceedings of the day.
